EMR are a recruitment company, set up in 1994, specialising in finding marketing communications staff of all levels, from copy writers to Directors, for a broad mix of clients in London. Anna Jacobs, the company’s Managing Director, was instrumental in their move to LentaSpace Thanet House three years ago and had a very clear wish list, “We worked with a broker to find a building that had a great central London location, lots of breakout space, a gym and bike storage. Thanet House met all our criteria.”
Flexible office space
The company currently has a team of 20, having scaled back during the pandemic. Now, however, business is very busy, and they are growing their team again. Anna says, “This is why the flexibility that Lenta offer, to up and downsize our office easily is great. And, although we have downsized to accommodate hybrid working, the new office is light and bright with tall windows, so it feels like an upgrade in space.”
Facilities that encourage employees to come in
Managing a recruitment company, Anna has a really clear idea what matters to employees. “When choosing the building, I wanted to give the team good amenities, so great breakout space, a gym, bike storage and showers were high on the wish list. Facilities are even more important now, to encourage them to come into the office – I often use the gym before or after work and being able to use the big, bright breakout space on the 5th floor is great for the team, for internal meetings and lunch breaks. Quite a few people cycle in, so the bike store and showers are well used too.”
Anna also found that the office continued to be essential during the pandemic. “We have a diverse team. Some are in flat shares, others have unreliable broadband at home and some live alone, so they wanted to come into the office. We’re all in on Mondays and then a mix across the week, depending on client meetings. We also work flexibly around school drop offs and pick-ups. Being in the office is great for social interaction, training and it’s easier to communicate – we get more done.”
The location on Strand works well for the company too. “There is a good mix of over and underground transport links and It’s really convenient for our client base. We work with lots of agencies around Farringdon, retail and fashion brands in the West End and investment banks in the City. So, we’re central for all of them.”
“The building itself also feels really secure. I feel comfortable that my team are safe whatever time of day they arrive or leave and that’s really important. The street is always busy and well lit.”
“The team really love the local area. It was key for me to have affordable options for lunch – somewhere with meal deals, so the Tesco Express next door is perfect. Some of the girls go to a nail salon on Drury Lane on a Friday. There are also great choices to take clients for a quick coffee or a decent meal at places like The Ivy Market Grill, or Gaucho.”
Meeting client needs
As a recruitment company, EMR often meet clients and conduct interviews at Thanet House, and the building works well for this, with six meeting rooms of varied sizes. Plus, as Anna says, “We have such a mix of clients that it strikes the balance between edgy for our agency and retail clients and corporate for the Finance clients. Some of our people searches are very much confidential, so the private meeting rooms are really useful as they are very discrete.”
LentaSpace team care
“The team are great,” says Anna. “They know us all by name and I really feel that they are looking after us and keeping an eye on things. They always ensure that our post is brought up and left securely, which is important when I’m not in the office and they always call me if they have a query over anything.”
